In March last year Victorian American artist Jeremy Beggs released ‘Hurtful Ways’, his first single since his 2021 EP Layered Signs. It was followed by ‘Signal Me In’ and, earlier this year, ‘Been Looking In’. With each song Beggs has delivered thoughtful, layered songs that get into the nitty-gritty of life and, especially, the life of an artist.

His latest single, ‘Cover Me’, which is having its premiere here, today grapples with darkness – which we can hear in music and lyrics in the verses, where there’s almost a sense of him being tossed around in the netherworld. And it also brings in light. Indeed, when that first chorus hits we can hear in his wonderfully expressive voice how he is reaching for the light – or, rather, it has found him, as the lyric goes: ‘You cover me in grace’.

As Beggs explains, the song ‘is an intimate exploration of vulnerability, resilience, and the redemptive power of love … The song is about finding solace in the grace of someone who stands by you, no matter how lost you feel. It’s a poignant reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is a force that can guide us back to the light.’

‘Cover Me’ was written with and mixed by Matt Joe Gow, with whom Beggs worked on the earlier singles, and you can listen to it below.
